15/12/1916    Second Lieutenant J. A. Marshall, of the Cyclist Battalion, is seconded for duty with the Royal Flying Corps.

From a local paper - 13/4/17 Lieutenant Marshall Missing.  = Mrs. Marshall, of Hartford, was on Tuesday officially informed that her eldest son, Lieutenant Marshall, attached to the Royal Flying Corps, was missing. He was formerly a Lieutenant in the Cyclists. His father, Captain J. Marshall, was wounded early in the war, and has since returned to active service.

From a local paper - 14/4/17 - Lieutenant Marshall, the eldest son of Mrs. Marshall, of Hartford, attached to of the Royal Flying Corps, is officially reported missing. He was formerly a Lieutenant in the Cyclists. His father Captain J. Marshall, was wounded early in the war, and has since returned to active service.

From a local paper - 8/9/17 - Airman John Arthur Marshall, Cyclist Battalion, and Royal Flying Corps, of elder son of Captain James Marshall, King's Royal Rifles, of Hartford cottage, Huntingdon, is still missing.

John had a friend Thomas Margerison who was in the Hunts. Cyclist Battalion who also joined the Royal Flying Corps.
