Richardson - J. A. From a local newspaper dated the 2/11/1918 - FEARLESS RICHARDSON OF RAMSEY. Sergt. J. A. Richardson, M.M., Northants. Regt., son of Mr. S. Richardson, Ramsey, was killed in action on September 2??th. His Chaplain, in a sympathetic letter says ‘We were attacking the enemy and encountered an enemy machine gun. Your son, with his usual courage, made a dash for it and was killed in the attempt. He had been with us for the last nine months, and was the best NCO in my Company, both in and out of action. His courage and cheerfulness were always a great example, both to officers and men, and the way he always knocked about in a battle encouraging others, regardless of personal safety, earned him the name of ‘’Fearless Richardson.’’ He was with me when he won his Military Medal, and I have also recommended him on several other occasions, which I sincerely hope will yet secure him the awards so gallantly won. The loss of so good and brave soldier can never be replaced in the Battalion. I must congratulate you on having a son who gave his life so bravely for the great cause we are fighting for.
