Ruben Deller came from Great Stukeley,
Huntingdonshire, he was one of six uncles of Floss Standen [nee Deller]. Six members of the Deller family from Great Stukeley served in the H.C.B. = Charles - David - Frank - Frederick - John - Ruben. -- He enlisted at the H.Q. of the HCB in St. Mary's Street, Huntingdon sometime before the 11/6/1915, where he was given the H C B number 1098 and posted to B Company of the 2/1st [Reserve] Battalion HCB holding the rank of private.He was posted to the base depot B. E. F. France on 26th July 1916, he was rationed up to and for that day. Order was part 2 No. 171 issued by W. L. Stephenson, 2/Lieut. & acting Adjutant, 2/1st Hunts. Cyclist Battalion. The order was issued at Well Camp Alford at 8-00 p.m., 28th July 1916. He was one of a large number of HCB men that left the east coast on the 27 July 1916 heading for France at the time he was noted as being a private in C Co. 2/1st HCB. When in France he was transferred to the Private Bedfordshire Regiment Private where he was a private with the new Army number of 43052. |
