John came from Ramsey  St. Mary's, Huntingdonshire and enlisted in the 2/1st H. C. B. He joined some time before the 03/11/1914 enlisting in the H. Q. at St. Mary's Street, Huntingdon - when his name first appears.

He later was transferred into the Machine Gun Corps. with the Army number 32798 - finally being demobilised a/z/r 22-7-1919.
