Local newspaper entries indicate that by 25/2/1916 Colour  Sergeant M. G. Marshall had been promoted to the rank of Colour Sergeant Major at the time it was indicated that he was serving in the 2/1st Hunts. Cyclist Bat. consequent upon the Double Company system having been adopted on December 1st 1916 last.
