Sidney Preston.

. Sidney Preston left his home in Pidley, Huntingdonshire sometime before the 10/9/1915 and enlisted at the H Q of the Hunts. Cyclists at Huntingdon.

He was posted to the base depot B. E. F. France on 26th July 1916, he was rationed up to and for that day. Order was part 2 No. 171 issued by W. L. Stephenson, 2/Lieut. & acting Adjutant, 2/1st Hunts. Cyclist Battalion. The order was issued at Well Camp Alford at 8-00 p.m., 28th July 1916.

At this time he was transferred into the Machine Gun Corps. with the Army number 43183or 46183.  At the time - 27th July 1916 he was a private in the 2/1st HCB.

At some time in his military service he served in Palestine.

Notes indicate that he was disembodied 2-4-1919.

He died in 1987 aged 91, his obit was in a local newspaper dated the  20/5/1987. He was the same as Sidney Preston - changed his name from Sidney Preston to Sidney Line after some family problem.  He was a Corporal in the Machine Gun Corp and served in Egypt and Palestine, he survived the war. His name was added to the HCB Roll as it was within a block number of men that served in the M. G. C.  - More research is needed to prove this fact.

He had a daughter Edith Evelyn Wootten who still lives in the same village, Pidley, that her father lived in.
